Overview

CloudRadial Fluent is the current look of the CloudRadial Unified Client Portal (UCP). It is the theme new portals start on, and it is the one that light and dark mode, per-user appearance choice and the current brand-color controls are all built around. The older themes — Default, Dark, White, Steel and the two Teams themes — still work, but they are not being developed further.

This article explains what Fluent is, what it gives your users, and what you as a Partner control. It does not cover the individual settings screens; those are linked at the end.

What Fluent Is

Fluent is a single theme that ships in two modes — Light and Dark — drawn from one shared set of color values. Every surface in the portal, from the sidebar to a grid row to a chart, takes its color from that shared set rather than from a color written into an individual screen.

That sounds like an internal detail, and for the most part it is. The part that reaches you is this: when you set a brand color, it reaches everything at once. There is no screen that quietly kept its old color because nobody remembered to update it.

Light, Dark and System

Fluent is the only theme in the portal with a real dark mode. Both modes are first-class: the dark palette is not the light one inverted, and both were tuned so that text, status colors and links stay legible on their own backgrounds.

There are three appearance settings, and they resolve in this order:

1. The user's own choice, if you allow it. A user picks Light, Dark or System from their profile.
2. Your Default Mode, set at the partner level or overridden per client.
3. System, when that is the default mode — the portal follows the user's device light/dark setting, or the Microsoft Teams theme when the portal is open inside Teams.

System follows the device live. A user who has their laptop set to switch at sunset sees the portal switch with it, without reloading the page.

If you would rather every user see the same thing, clear Allow users to choose their own theme and set the Default Mode you want. The Appearance option then does not appear in the user's profile at all.

What You Control

Fluent gives you two brand colors, and each one can have a separate dark-mode value:

Both colors are optional in the sense that leaving one blank means "use the theme default" — blank is inheritance, not black. The defaults are:

• Bar Color — CloudRadial navy, #22335a, in both modes
• Primary Color — #0067b8 in light mode, #5c9fff in dark mode

Setting a dark value is optional too, and the two colors behave differently when you leave it blank. A light Primary Color is brightened for dark mode, so a deep brand color does not disappear against a dark background. A light Bar Color is not adjusted at all — it renders in dark mode exactly as you set it. Set a dark value on either one when you want to decide that yourself rather than accept the default behavior.

What Stays the Same in Both Modes

Your title bar color does not change between light and dark. If you set the bar to your brand green, it is that green in dark mode too — unless you set a dark Bar Color, in which case that one is used.

This is deliberate, and it is the single most common question about Fluent. Your bar color is your brand, and a brand does not have a light and dark version unless you decide it does. The portal will not invent one for you.

The practical consequence is about logos, not colors: because the bar stays the same, the logo that sits on it stays readable in both modes — but the logo on the portal home page sits on a surface that does flip, and that one needs a second image. Logos and Images Across the Portal covers it.

What You Cannot Change, and Why

Fluent gives you the title bar and the accent color. It does not let you set page backgrounds, body text, borders or the status colors — the greens, ambers and reds that mean "good," "attention" and "problem."

This is a deliberate limit rather than a missing feature. Those values were tuned together so that text stays readable against its background, and a brand palette applied to them would break that for your clients rather than for you. You get brand control; you do not get the ability to make the portal unreadable.
