This article is pending removal for being a legacy method of integrating ClipTraining. Please follow the more up-to-date instructions in the following article: https://radials.io/ClipTraining
ClipTraining offers a very modular approach to training featuring courses made up of "clips", or short video tutorials. ClipTraining works well for users who need to learn something from scratch or need help with a single feature.
ClipTraining includes training for all of the Microsoft 365 products, plus end-user training for Cybersecurity Awareness. In addition, you can load in your Compliance Policies and assign them for online attestations for your customers.
Review the instructions below to learn how to get started with ClipTraining in your CloudRadial portal.
How the ClipTraining Integration Works
ClipTraining works in a two-step method in CloudRadial:
- Generate the content package
- Push the package of ClipTraining courses to eligible companies
ClipTraining verifies those with access to courses by matching the CloudRadial companies with their respective ClipTraining companies. Once that match has been confirmed, the users within matched companies will be able to access their courses directly without the need for authentication.
If a ClipTraining course is pushed to a company that has not been matched, they will receive an error message when accessing a ClipTraining course and will not be able to see the content.
To ensure a good user experience, be sure to closely follow the instructions below as you set the integration up for your tenant.
Step 1: Generating the ClipTraining Package
Before you can integrate ClipTraining with CloudRadial, ensure that CloudRadial is enabled in your ClipTraining portal. Contact support@cliptraining.com to make sure that step is completed.
Once completed, we'll need to generate a ClipTraining content package.
- Navigate to Partner > Settings
- Select Integrations from the right-hand menu
- Select the ClipTraining integration
- Click the link that says Click here to generate ClipTraining course content package
- This runs a background publishing job which can take up to 15 minutes to complete. You'll see over 150 courses in the final content package, listed under the Partner > Content area as ClipTraining M/DD/YYYY. This can be treated like any other piece of CloudRadial content.

Step 2: Enabling ClipTraining Access to Companies
Once your content is created, you can distribute it to companies as you see fit. However, only companies and their users that already exist within the ClipTraining administrative dashboard will be able to access the course content.
To set up that access:
- Navigate to Partner > Clients in CloudRadial
- Use the 3 blue-dot menu to Edit the company you've set up in the ClipTraining portal
- Select the Integrations tab
- Enter their ClipTraining portal name assigned in the ClipTraining administration dashboard
- Select Submit at the bottom to finalize your settings
Once the ClipTraining courses from the content package have been published to companies verified with this step, they will be able to access the training.
If you recieve, Error connecting to training server. Error: BadRequest - Login was unsuccessful because the ClipTraining integration not enabled for this portal, please ensure the user has an active account in the ClipTraining administration dashboard.
Bonus: Updating ClipTraining Courses
ClipTraining updates course packages on their own. ClipTraining will notify their clients of new course additions via email. Because CloudRadial treats the ClipTraining courses as a content package, these are not automatically updated. To keep your ClipTraining courses updated:
- Navigate to Partner > Settings in your CloudRadial CSA tenant
- Select Integrations from the Configuration column on the right
- Select ClipTraining from the list
- Use the button to generate ClipTraining course content
Note that:
- You should already have a ClipTraining content package generated from the first time you established the integration. This button will create another, more updated package of courses.
- The creation of the content package can take several minutes to generate.
- We'll need to merge the new package with the old package. This will avoid deleting any potential course completion data from users.
We will now merge the two packages. To do so:
- Navigate to Partner > Content
- Locate the content package under the Courses section
- The ClipTraining course package will be named the date and time on which it was generated
- The ClipTraining course package will be named the date and time on which it was generated
- Select the new package and open it up
- Use the Export option at the top right to get a ZIP of the file
- Navigate back to the Content overview and select your original package
- Select the Merge option and attach the ZIP you just downloaded
- Ensure you leave the checkbox on for Replace any existing content by name?
- Select Submit to begin the merging process
The merging process can take several minutes. After 5 minutes or so, refresh the page and check to see if your existing ClipTraining content package has all the new courses added to it. You will then need to publish the package again. Lastly, you can safely delete the "new" package that we added and exported.
Using a Menu item to open ClipTraining via SSO
You are able to create a menu item that opens the ClipTraining portal with the user logged in, using the existing SSO mechanism already supported by ClipTraining courses.
- In a menu item, the following tokens are supported
-
@ClipTraining (opens the whole platform, aka Home Page)
-
@ClipTrainingChannel|Windows 11 (opens the specific channel)
-
@ClipTrainingCourse|Using Excel 2019 (opens the specific course)
-
- If you have previously defined @ClipTraining, @ClipTrainingChannel or @ClipTrainingCourse, their definitions will be used.
-
If the course or channel are not available (spelled incorrectly etc) the menu item opens to the ClipTraining dashboard
-
If the you are not authorized, the menu item displays a ClipTraining unauthorized message
-
If ClipTraining integration is turned off then user should see the following error message while trying to access the ClipTraining SSO link "This training option is disabled in integration settings."
- If enabled but ClipTraining Portal Name is not set and user tries to take a ClipTraining course then user will receive the following message: "Company not configured for training."
