The last thing we wanted to do was write yet another agent. Every MSP already runs an RMM agent, and nobody is asking for one more. Two problems pushed us down this path anyway.
Why the CloudRadial Agent Exists
There is no standard among RMM agents. Every MSP has a favorite, and the data each one exposes varies widely. Some RMM agents have limited APIs, and some cloud-hosted tools don’t expose their API at all. Building CloudRadial on top of someone else’s agent would have meant building it for some partners and not others.
RMM agents were designed for technicians, not clients. Our goal is to help your clients understand their own IT around topics like data governance, compliance, and standards. Some of the data needed for that isn’t captured by RMM tools at all, because RMM was never built to answer those questions.
So we built our own. The CloudRadial Agent is available for both Windows and Mac.
What We Did to Keep It Out of Your Way
We designed the agent to be as minimally invasive as possible, for you and for your clients’ users.
-
Easy to deploy. Most partners push it out through their RMM. End users can also install it themselves from their Profile page in CloudRadial by selecting their name at the top right and following the highlighted prompt.
- Light on resources. The agent sends its full data set once a day and heartbeats every 10 minutes. The rest of the time it does nothing.
- Runs as a service. It sits quietly in the background with no user interface, so there’s nothing for a user to click, close, or complain about.
- Uninstalls cleanly. The agent appears in Programs and Features (Windows) and can be removed like any other application. See the installation article below for Mac removal.
- Uninstalls itself when you stop managing the client. When the agent can no longer check in against a valid client, it removes itself automatically.
- Fails quietly. If the network is down or antivirus interferes, the agent doesn’t prompt the user or generate errors. The worst case is a missed check-in, which you’ll see in CloudRadial.
So, forgive us for adding one more agent to the list. Its job is to help you grow your business, so you end up buying more RMM agents, not fewer.
